Zesty Ginger Lemon Refresher

Zesty Ginger Lemon Refresher

I'm very honest about my decision to be sober—not because I don’t know how to hold my own or have fun, but because my body doesn't process alcohol well. I have a few variations in my ADH and ALDH genes that make it difficult for my liver to process alcohol, which results in me feeling horrible after just half a glass of wine.

But that doesn’t stop me from enjoying a delicious refresher. I don’t feel like an oddball not having a drink in my hand, but sometimes, I crave something other than my go-to bubbly diet coke!

This recipe is a healthy and delicious refresher you can serve at your next function as a thirst quencher and an easy go-to for anyone abstaining from drinking. This zesty refresher is more than just a delicious drink—it's a powerhouse of wellness. Ginger provides anti-inflammatory and digestive benefits, while lemon juice boosts your immune system with its high vitamin C content. Apple cider vinegar supports digestion and blood sugar control, and raw honey offers antioxidant and antibacterial properties. The addition of sea salt ensures essential mineral intake and aids hydration, while mint leaves add a refreshing touch and help beat the bloat. Enjoy a refreshing mocktail that nourishes your body!

Try it out at your next neighborhood football get-together or at home with your favorite snack!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Ginger (fresh, sliced)
  • 6 cups Water
  • 1/4 tsp Sea Salt
  • 1/4 cup Raw Honey
  • 1/2 cup Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 12 Ice Cubes
  • 1 cup Sparkling Water (or to taste)
  • 2 tbsps Mint Leaves (or to taste)

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring the sliced ginger and water to a boil. Turn off the heat and let it sit for 20 to 30 minutes.
  2. In a large jar or lidded glass container, combine the salt, honey, lemon juice, and vinegar.
  3. Strain out the ginger and add the liquid to the glass container. Mix well to combine all ingredients.
  4. Pour the ginger mixture into a glass filled with ice. Top with sparkling water.
  5. Stir, top with mint (optional) and enjoy!
